Defending your worldview by any means, including fanatical, unproven imposition of your position and complete ignorance of your opponent’s position, is of course bad.

You need to learn to control this animal automaticity when necessary and let new, important information into your consciousness for critical analysis, even if your instincts protest.

Trying to understand your opponent is necessary. Cooperation is essential. But about concessions... Concessions in the sense of “I accept your position out of respect for you, although I don’t agree with it” are pretty stupid.

In order to interact fruitfully with others, it is enough to be tolerant of other people's opinions.

Tolerant means accepting that everyone can make mistakes, including you.
